A poem for all the Mothers on Mother's Day

To all the mothers out there

Whose hearts are living on,

outside of their bodies,

in the form of their sweet child

I see you,

For all that you hold

And all you do

I see you

Because I am you

And you’re so not alone

We’re not meant to be perfect

Or to always get it right

It’s okay that this feels hard

each and every night

Because being a mother

Takes courage & strength

It’s a never-ending journey

and we’re finding our way

We hold our child’s big feelings

We help them name their emotions

We witness their fears,

Their anger

Their sadness

And their joy

It’s a great balancing act

While being pushed to our max

Yet love always seems to

find it’s way back

The laundry

The dishes

The meals we prepare

The mental load that we carry

All coming from a place of deep care

The endless worries

And decisions

That add up every day

And don’t forget making sure

we cut toast the right way

We’ll keep learning and growing

Alongside our sweet babes

Yes, it’s exhausting

It’s messy

It’s painstakingly hard

But there’s also such beauty

Such purpose

and such growth to be found

One minute we’re smiling

Feeling love deep in our core

The next, we’re crying out

“I can’t do this anymore”

It’s up and it’s down

It’s all over the place

But let me remind you

It’s divinely planned in this way

The emotional heartache

of growing from maiden to mother

Is a transformation

unlike any other

And just when we think we’ve maybe figured it out

Our child will push us to learn something new, without doubt

Even though it may feel like

there’s no end in sight

The sun will eventually peek back out again

Yes, even after days, weeks, or months of

being lost in torrential rain

slowly but surely

We’ll begin to understand

how brilliantly Intuitive and resilient we are

Your body brought life down to earth

Don’t you see?

Just how beautifully profound

This journey of mothering

is meant to be

You’re a vessel of love

And of beauty

and strength

You’re a mother

One who was fully and entirely

made for this role

So whatever season of mother

You find yourself in

I hope you know

Just how capable,

how worthy,

and how amazing you are
